Journeying Together
“We’re all just walking each other home.”― Ram Dass

All of us are on a journey we can’t make alone. It requires community, friends, and loved ones to walk with us. We need other souls to accompany us on our spiritual journeys. To be our mirrors, to be present with us. To know we are not alone in this grand journey back to our divine loving creator. This is a journey of growth, transformation, and discovery. Change, transitions, and many small deaths along the way. Even introverts, like me, and those of us who have been called into contemplative life, need community. In particular, many of us who are called into the contemplative don’t find other contemplatives in the usual places of community and connection.

So we go it alone. Making temporary connections at retreats, connecting at workshops, connecting to authors and speakers who inspire us but wanting and even needing something more. To be seen not just taught. Wanting connections that meet us in the midst of our journeys. Spirituality doesn’t happen in-between life it happens in the midst of life. As Paula D’Arcy says, “God comes to us disguised as our life”. So we need to find a few others in the midst of our life to journey with and learn from, connections in-between retreats, which happens to be most of life unless you live in a monastery.

No matter where you are on your journey you are invited to join us at Contemplate Lincoln as we journey together. This month we begin a new study on James Finley’s Christian Meditation and a year long study with Brian McLaren’s We Make the Road by Walking. Both opportunities have something to offer to both those curious about the Christian contemplative tradition and those seeking to journey deeper.
