August: marked by majestic dignity or grandeur Coming from the Latin word augustus, meaning “consecrated” or “venerable” What a name for a month and also what a reminder to look at and experience the grandeur of the creation in which we are a part, the inherit dignity that God has how endowed in all creation, the consecrated cosmos that God called very good, the venerable nature of creation with its endowed wisdom as the first word of God. In Nebraska, where the prairie paints our native landscape, August is a particularly ripe time to savor the sights of the season as native flowers in Nebraska are most colorful during the August heat. Take some time to take this months name to heart by opening up to the grandeur surrounding us by spending some time in nature, taking a mindful walk, or standing barefoot on the holy ground. Take some time to look at your neighbor, or maybe a stranger, and witness their inherent dignity. |
