Thin Places “from birth to this day I find myself in thin places, geo-spiritual spaces where I experience God unfiltered. In these place where beauty runs rampant I contemplate the artistry of the Divine One who beckons me around bodies of water.”― Dr. Barbara Holmes, CAC Faculty Member From Conspire 2021 Finally Fall weather has arrived with cooling temperatures and changing colors. For me this time of year is an invitation into thin space. We also enter into October with all its imagery and invocation of thin places. A time in the Celtic tradition where the veil between the physical world and the spiritual world grows thin. These places can be places of beauty or places of special historical or personal significance. They can be our churches sanctuary or a place within our own home. Sometimes thin space happens outside of place during a conversation with a friend or loved one, an open-hearted prayer, a spirit filled ritual, silent prayer, or the Eucharist. Sometimes we seek them with travel or retreat. Sometimes they just happen, in any case they are a grace from God. And if/when we listen they often have something to say. What are your thin places? What have they revealed to you? This October may you find, seek, or simply stumble upon thin places. Finding there a love unthinkable from a God who loves us beyond imagination. |
Annual All Hallows Eve LiturgyTogether through liturgical readings we will soak in and participate in this tradition using liturgy from the Iona Abbey (A Celtic Inspired Ecumenical Christian Community). We will end our time together in meditation and silent prayer. In the Celtic Christian Tradition Halloween, also known as All Hallows Eve, celebrates summer’s end, the transition to shorter days, and the harvest. It is also a time of honoring and remembering our ancestors and saints that came before us. A time in the Celtic tradition where the veil between this world and the spirit world is very thin. Join us for this liturgy and meditation celebrating and honoring this transition. This day precedes All Saints Day and All Souls Day observed in churches and communities across the world. |
